About José Luis
CLASSIC GUITARIST
He debuted in a stage at the early age of fifteen and in the last forty years he has traveled and performed in Europe, America, Asia and Africa. Some of the performances, in Spain, that stand out have been in the Teatro Real and the Auditorio Nacional de Madrid, the Reales Alcaceres de Sevilla and the Museo del Prado -show with singer Teresa Berganza that was televised in over 34 countries by RAI. As well as solo performances interpreting Heitor Villalobos concert for guitar and orchestra with the Ciudad de Torrent Symphonic Orchestra and in the Festival Andres Segovia with the Chamartín Symphonic Orchestra. Recently he presented his compositions for solo guitar, trio, ensemble and orchestra in a dynamic concert that took place in the Teatro Monumental de Madrid which was televised by TVE.

Outside the frontiers of Spain he has performed in the stages of the Frankfurt Opera and the Auditorio Nacional de Mexico where more than ten thousand people attended the show. In Poland José Luis interpreted the Concierto de Aranjuez before King Felipe VI of Spain; he participated in the inauguration of the Cervantes Institute in New York City; Premiered Tres Piezas para Guitarra by Jose Nieto in the Guitar Art Festival in Belgrade; and has been invited various times to tour in Argentina with Festival Guitarras del Mundo. In 2015 he traveled to Turkey to interpret the Concierto de Aranjuez and a Suite of his composition in the Izmir Opera. This past year José Luis was invited to perform in Kinshasa and Brazzaville in Congo, Africa in celebration of Spanish Heritage Day and give master classes to the guitar students there.

As a performer he has published various albums: Orquesta de Guitarras de Madrid as a soloist, Bata de Cola a bold and knowledgeable blend of classical and flamenco guitars, Triangulo Manriqueño a composition of my own inspired in Jorge Marnrique’s route and the medieval music and Cambio de Aires with compositions of my own for guitar and ensemble. In Por la Gracia de Bach, his last album, the listeners can enjoy the Suite 2 in c minor, the Chaconne in d minor by J.S Bach and the Folias de España by Marin Marais.
He has participated in Hollywood productions like Of Love and Shadows and Goya’s Ghost by Milos Forman, as well as in Spanish movies with music by Carmelo Bernaola, Tomas Marco or Jose Nieto.

The classical guitar is the main identity of his works proved by more than forty compositions for guitar. His works are not circumscribed to this instrument, José Luis has created chamber music for duos, trios and ensembles, for symphonic orchestra, ballets and a concert for guitar and orchestra.
After forty years as a professional guitar player and composer, José Luis has had the opportunity to visit over forty different countries, meeting people and learning cultures. He was in contact with various rhythms and music establishing friendship with other guitar players and composers through the world, aspects that influenced his personal life and professional career. His works are a tribute to those memories with a musical fusion of his Spanish origins and the different tinctures and flavors of the world.

He has composed soundtracks for television and movies, like El retablo de las maravillas from Cervantes, Voces de Sefarad and Toledo, Los caminos de la luz with Manuel Gutiérrez Aragón. Last year premiered Espejuelos Oscuros a Spanish-Cuban production to which José Luis made the original soundtrack, the movie won the Jury Special Prize in the Festival de Cine de Avanca, Portugal.

As a sound engineer and music producer José Luis has recorded over 160 albums, sixty of them released by his own record label named Plectrum. He has recorded and played in albums listened around the world, like Orquesta de guitarras de Madrid as a soloist, Bata de Cola a bold and knowledgeable blend of classical and flamenco guitar, Triangulo Manriqueño a composition of his own inspired in Jorge Marnrique’s route and the medieval music of the epoque. He has a great experience in recording guitars and classical music, and has produced albums for Deutsche Grammophon, Glosa and Opera Tres. At present he owns and manages Isla Blanca Studios in Madrid a dynamic space for recording from a solo instrument to an orchestra.
