Symphonic Guitar:
Concerts for Guitar and Orchestra
This dossier presents three options for a concert for guitar and orchestra: Concierto de Aranjuez by Joaquín Rodrigo, La Bahía by Luis Barroso and the Mediterranean Suite by José Luis Martínez Moreno. La Bahía is a concert is for guitar and orchestra strings, with clear Mediterranean tinctures and inspired in the Spanish music. The Mediterranean Suite is an intimate collection of my works for guitar and small orchestra (strings, flute and clarinet). The concert is ideal for all people who enjoy classical music and guitar, the show is aimed at audiences of all ages.
Concerts for guitar and orchestra are rare to find in a symphonic orchestra’s season, only the Concierto de Aranjuez is programmed more frequently. My motivation to develop this proposal is to recover and promote the classical guitar in the symphonic world. The study process for a concert with orchestra is a rewarding and wonderful experience. As a professional guitar player working with orchestras has been a very important part of my career, preparing up to 25 different concerts for guitar and orchestra.
History of the Repertoire
Out of all the 20 concerts for guitar and orchestra that I’ve played in public, the Concierto de Aranjuez is the one I have played the most. It’s a concert I always try to keep in practice. The concert of La Bahía, on the other hand, is new and has been played very little. This spring 2017 it was interpreted in Prague. The Mediterranean Suite has traveled with me to Cuba, Costa Rica, Mexico, Turkey, Serbia and other countries.Symphonic Guitar:
